Watercolor – San Gimignano via Bonda
This 2004 Watercolor describes a peripheral view of San Gimignano, shot along Via Bonda. The work exploits the diagonal line of the walkway in the foreground to guide the observer towards the center of the composition, where historic architectures and turreted profiles rise on the natural slope.
The chromatic construction is based on a precise thermal and material contrast. The architectural volumes are defined by warm fields in tones of terracotta, Siena earth, and ochre, interrupted by the sharp verticality of the cypresses. The olive and sage green of the vegetation on the escarpments contrasts with the cold and diluted applications of the paved track, while the sky, resolved with a clear and uniform wash, guarantees breath and luminosity to the entire glimpse.
A generously sized graphic work, characterized by an analytical stroke and a rigorous perspective layout. Indicated for collections of classic Tuscan vedutismo or for display in large professional studios and representative living areas.
