This imposing 2009 watercolor decomposes the hills of Val d’Orcia into a geometric mosaic of great expressive force. The work abandons detail in favor of broad, material, and layered fields reminiscent of the clay formations of the crete.
The palette is dark and autumnal, dominated by burnt ochre, umbers, and intense greens in the lower part, while the upper half welcomes a dense, moving sky tinted in lilac and deep blue.
